oh hell yes, I have a Snuggie [26 Nov 2009|09:51pm] ponderosa121 [ mood | touched ] We went down to Salinas to J's sister's new place, and holy crap is it huge. It's got a nifty layout, and infinitely more space than their old house. We hadn't seen Natalie since before she was walking so it took a while for her to stop giving J and I the suspicious eye, but by the end of the night it was lots of carry-me arms, and where Sophie is usually all about her Uncle J, somehow this time I ended up with her hanging on me more often than not. I suspect it was that I was wearing a pink shirt so that boosted my coolness rating. It's interesting to see the ways her personality has changed now that she's a big sister. Sometimes I wish we lived a bit closer in order to visit more often. Anyway, we hung out, ate food, played with dolls, tried to devise a plan to steal their adorable pug, and at the end of the evening I got the bonus of belated b-day gifts. See subject. I have also increased my fuzzy scarf collection by one, so I should probably put out some of the ones I don't wear often out onto the curb. The drive was nice, and J and I talked a lot about the ways in which we'd like to focus on our projects for school and general creative things. I'm back to having a solid idea of where to go with my current assignments so I'm feeling very rejuvenated about them. Which is good, as I need to be doubly-focused this weekend, since I didn't actually get any extra days off, and the lab is closed tomorrow which is typically my dedicated time to go in and work all day on my homework! post comment

I'm slightly bummed about this, but I think I'll just resolve to send more random letters throughout the year as that's way more fun to receive. - I made adorable cupcakes at work again. I wish I had an excuse to make them at home, or a whole lot more people to foist them off on. - The last two episodes of Fringe made me all excited and giddy, even with a brief Not Sure If Want moment in there. I need to get over my tendency to want to fit things neatly in canon and just write the smushy porn that I want to write. - There is absolutely no way to reply to an anon thread with you as the subject without a) being a dick, b) encouraging the drama, and c) being a dick. I replied anyway. - There is absolutely no way to blog/tweet/mention replying to an anon thread with you as the subject without encouraging the drama and being a bit of a dick, but it made me laugh. Oh, people. - I had this big complicated adventure dream with JDM in it last night. It was awesome. Then I had to get up and go to work, which was less awesome, even though our new brunch cook made me Huevos for breakfast. - Speaking of our new cook, she's been teaching J how to make stuff. Including this awesome grilled tomato salsa which is downstairs right now, calling to me. Things what I have been doing [19 Nov 2009|08:09pm] ponderosa121 [ mood | accomplished ] Attended a benefit dinner last night with J, maiki, and Susan for a non-profit that we've done a lot of work for. Materials that both Susan and I had designed were all over the place and it was really nice to see it all out and looking snazzy. Susan's done a lot to get their informational materials/reports looking clean and professional. I did the benefit's programs, invites, and carried over from last year was a set of promotional posters which I'm still proud of. The project, per usual, made me gnash my teeth at times, but I do enjoy working for them, and it was flattering when people whom I didn't expect compliments from told me they were impressed by the invitations in particular. :D Leading up I had this worry about the pagination on the program booklet since I worked entirely remotely and never saw a proof (or even had time to run one myself!) but everything turned out beautifully and typo-free. By this point, I've done enough recent work to have a solid design portfolio again, so with so few classes left ahead of me it's nice to have that in addition to what's shaping up to go on my reel. I didn't mingle much, as J and I were introduced to some great people early on and there was no incentive to bother straying away from the interesting conversation to rub elbows with people outside my industry. It was somewhat fascinating attending something like this after so long, and also after now having worked on catering from the serving end! The appetizers, by the way, were awesome. I wish we offered some of them on our own menu, especially the warm cranberries and almonds in phyllo cups. Yum. My shoes were remarkably comfortable. I haven't worn actual heels in forever and it's nice to confirm that my knee can handle hours standing around in 3" heels. 1 comment|post comment

For my records, but you're welcome to read... [18 Nov 2009|12:37pm] eeyore9990 I went and saw a nutritionist on Monday and since I was sort of having to stop and think today, I figured I'd write down everything she told me so I am less likely to forget. And since I have the benefit of free nutritional advice, I figured I'd share with y'all what she said to me. Note: I know some of you are uncomfortable with "weight loss" posts, but this is only tangentially about weight loss. Mostly it's just a way for the hubby and I to get and STAY healthy. ( The Dos and Don'ts of Eating ) I have never in my life heard the phrases "eat CORRECTLY" and "portion control" as much as I did that day. However, three days later, here are the side effects I'm noticing: ( The Other Stuff ) Anyway, that's healthy eating 101 and you didn't have to go get bitched at by my skinny little nutritionist. For those who wonder how I ate before and how this differs: I ate once a day at dinner. I'd have maybe 800-1000 calories per day, all at once. Because I really don't like to eat at other times. So I'm eating "more" now, but I'm spacing it out and making healthier choices. 28 comments|post comment

I appreciate all the well-wishes you've sent, {{{flist}}}. My cough has improved a great deal and I've been sleeping better. Now it's a matter of regaining strength. I had a slight setback dealing with strep, but that seems to be on it's way out now. I'm very tired much of the time, even when I sleep eight or more hours (typical for CFS), and am reliably informed that basically I used up all my reserves fighting this stupid bug and need to recoup. In other words, it'll just take time and lots of rest and eating right and the usual things they tell one to do to gain optimum health. ( more boring tmi health details ) I'm way behind on reading my friends page. I might have caught up a bit sooner, but once I was able to sit up for longer than a few minutes at a time, I had to focus on finishing my writing for the holiday exchanges I'm doing. I still have two more to complete before I can indulge in more than an occasional tweet, much less journaling. Plus there is snapelyholidays, of which I can say I am more than delighted with the entries so far. :) I hope the readers will be, too. There was one rather stressful-but-in-that-good-way thing I had to do whilst I was recouping ( aka- my exciting news ) The other thing I have been able to do whilst resting is reading some of the fics I had stored on my Palm for just such instances as this. (I have a habit of taking long &/or highly-rec'd fics and saving them for reading at times when I'm ill, like recently. Fanfic is a great distraction, believe me.) So a few recs and then it's back to the writing grind. gen: Crucio by ObsidianEmbrace Fascinating and well-done AU tale highlighting the relationship between Harry, Sirius and Snape. Mind the warnings. sshp: Sunrises by Julia the Younger This one holds up very well, despite a few variations from canon that make it AU, but parts are very spot on, and I could see this Harry and Snape. sshp: The Bondage Of The Mind by hobbitdragon Holy smoking batsex, Robin! This fic blew my mind. It's post-DH w/a Harry suffering post-traumatic stress and a Snape we never discovered, but some might have guessed at... I'll say no more. But even if serious bdsm is not your thing, give it a try. If you like reading different permutations of our beloved characters, this fic might just blow your mind, too. ssmm: Learned Too Well by Oh-Johanna Ignore the SP&G if you can -- the story itself is gripping and ripping and... you may need some hankies. Oh, but the angst is superb. ssmm: Levels of Comfort by Spyke Raven Whew! I like good Snagonagall and this is excellent, packing a punch in not many words. OMG *face palm* [15 Nov 2009|01:15pm] eeyore9990 Okay so. I have written, I think, one RPF. EVER. And that was when the Giants won the Superbowl and I was sort of high on everything to do with football and Eli Manning and yay Giants won! I'm a Cowboys fan at heart, but I'll take ANYONE over the Patriots and Eli Manning is sort of my personal favorite underdog and.... and that has nothing to do with anything today. Except to say, I never ever thought I'd be in this position again. All right, now, y'all know that I'm kinda half-obsessed with Star Trek Reboot fandom, right? And the main reason for that is Karl Urban's Bones (because he is awesome), and even though he's nothing like DeForest Kelley, I kinda like that because it makes the character his own. I mean, no one's topping TOS Bones for sheer awesomeness, but Karl Urban is... Well. I kinda have the hots for him in a way that may not be entirely legal. And because of this, I started thinking about the day the cast met him and how that went and (because every single guy but John Cho on that cast is "gay in my head") this is what happened.
